I have already watched the entire series of Call the Midwife and really enjoyed it. Now I am reading the book (kind of backwards, eh?) Chummy is my favorite character and I just adore the time period.

A couple years ago when my husband was in London he bought me the whole set of books. I LOVED the first one but now I am afraid to read the second as it seems to be all about the workhouses. The one chapter in the first book about one woman's experience with the workhouse was so horribly sad. I'm just not sure I can read more about it. :(

I totally understand watching the shows first-- that's what I have been doing for call the midwife! (Only because I needed something to watch more than something to read.)
