another year, another party....

Being a Brand New Year, many people find themselves clearing out the old to make way for the new!

So, with that in mind…I am planning on Hosting another....

'RECYCLE PARTY'
(last year's was a huge success)

date: Saturday January 21st
time: 10am until 2pm

This is where you bring anything you don’t want anymore and give it away, and while there, pick up items other’s don’t want. (FreeCycle idea).

Ideas of what you can recycle:

Glass jars, Tupperware, Dishes, Clothes, CD’s, Books, Purses, Jewelry, Containers, Décor, Frames, Craft items, Fabric, Furniture, Pet Supplies, Non-Perishable Food, Garden Supplies, Tools, Games, Appliances….and more. It should be in good enough condition to be re-used…no broken junk.

I’ll provide coffee, cocoa and donuts. You bring bags to carry home your new found good in.

Starting off the new year with a bang!

Dear Neglected Blog...

Dear Neglected Blog...
I didn't mean to ignore you, really! It's just been a busy few months and with having Facebook, Twitter, and the addiction of Pinterest (aka: 'the new crack'), I really just put you on the back burner for awhile and for that...I am very sorry. However....it's a brand new year- 2012! I plan to post on you at least a few times a month. (No promises, but it's a start).

First thing to post for the new year.....

labor day cupcakes...

Zoe baked these cupcakes for Labor Day.
We had a nice lunch at my folk's house and relaxed awhile.
The minions started school the next day...(those photos to come soon).

making it from scratch...

I found this simple recipe and photo at: Noshings

Brown Sugar Pancake Syrup
2 c. brown sugar (I used light)
1 c. water
4 T. butter, unsalted
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla

Add all but vanilla to small saucepan, bring to boil while whisking to dissolve the sugar. Let boil rapidly over medium heat for a full 3 minutes.

Immediately remove from heat, whisk in vanilla and let cool for a couple minutes until serving.

To keep: I poured the excess into a canning jar to place in the refrigerator. (DO NOT stir it as it cools, it will form grainy sugar crystals in the syrup.) It will thicken up quite a bit, but you can pop in the microwave for a few seconds to warm it up before serving next time.

Porter was all ready.
The surfers put him on Jay's board.
They waited for a good set.
Finally, after a good while...a wave!
Porter rode it all the way in.
Back out for round two....look at how comfortable Porter is.
Jay stands Porter up!
 Porter is stoked!!!
He got a medal, but didn't want to wear it.
Thanks Jay for surfing with PMan!

8/10: regular days...

NOTE: We are missing Brigham (who comes home from his RI vacation tomorrow).
Here's a few snaps from today....a regualr day:

Cameron prepares lunch for himslef and Porter. PB crackers and apples.

Carson prepares her own lunch...a fluff-a-nutter sandwich.

Porter plays on my laptop as Yuka stares at me.

Yoda waits to be let outside.

8/3: regular days....

NOTE: I moved this from my knitting blog (knitapalooza) to this blog, where it belongs.

A 'regular day'...laundry, iced coffee for mom, Cameron on his headphones, Carson playing LPS, Lola suns herself, Porter wraps himself up, Yoda watches TV, Porter plays with moon dough, James works (from home) and Yuka lounges anywhere she can.

Porter wants to attend the VB Camp Aug. 20th and wants to help raise money for this non-profit organization.

Surfers Healing was founded by Israel and Danielle Paskowitz.Their son, Isaiah, was diagnosed with autism at age three. Like many autistic children, he often suffered from sensory overload-- simple sensations could overwhelm him. The ocean was the one place where he seemed to find respite.
A former competitive surfer, Israel hit upon an idea--with Isaiah on the front of his surfboard, and Izzy steering from the back, the two spent the day surfing together. Surfing had a profound impact on Isaiah. Israel and Danielle decided they wanted to share this unique therapy with other autistic children. They began to host day camps at the beach where autistic children and their families could be exposed to a completely new experience of surfing.
